Join us in our fabulous sewing studio for this friendly, relaxed class, designed for those who already have a little sewing knowledge and wish to improve their confidence and abilities.
We will make a raglan sleeved, fully lined jacket, (Simplicity 8418) and design it to our own, individual specifications.
We will cover subjects such as making a toile, bagged out linings, zip insertion, ribbing and cuffing, pockets, turning holes, piping and applique as well as altering your pattern for improved fit.
Make a jacket designed by you, to fit you, and learn lots of useful sewing techniques along the way!

Please do not buy pattern, fabrics or tools and equipment until you know that the course will run.

1. use a commercial patterns and size it for better fit
2. understand lining processes used in a jacket
3. design a jacket to their own specification
Prosp Learn
Learners will already have basic knowledge of sewing with a sewing machine. Most learners will be able to complete the jacket within the sessions, but some may need to occasionally finish a task at home ready for the following week.

Learners will need the following tools and equipment please do not purchase until you are sure the course will run:

You will need to prepare the following tools and equipment before the start of the course:
A basic sewing kit including dressmaking scissors, un-picker, tape measure, notebook, small scissors or snips, some sewing threads etc.
You WILL need some scraps of fabric to practice techniques on, and it is always a good idea to have an old (CLEAN) sheet or duvet cover to use as practice fabric when we come to make a toile (mock-up).
You’ll need to have your pattern with you ready for the start of the course as well as your sheet/duvet for practice.
Prosp Anything Else
You will need to buy a pattern and fabric – the pattern ready for week 1, but it’s advisable to wait until you have spoken to the tutor before buying your fabric for your jacket.

Your tutor will be able to talk through with you individual progression options.

In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed
