Course Description
Due to the current and evolving situation with Covid 19, the delivery methods of this course are subject to change. There may be times when the lessons will be held remotely, via live video calls, use of our Moodle area, private social media groups etc. By signing up to the course you are agreeing to this wide range of teaching and learning approaches; the lessons will be held in classrooms where this is usually the case, when it is safe to do so, and may be switched to online as the need arises.

These courses are available from level 1 to level 2 and offer the solid foundation required for studying Maths at higher levels. The course materials have been designed to enable you to communicate effectively in both spoken and written contexts. The Functional Skills award involves end of course external examinations.
Prosp Description
Learners will:
• Use numbers for everyday practical purposes, such as calculating and comparing utility bills
• Use measure, shape and size to calculate areas e.g. for decorating rooms
• Use your handling data maths skills to conduct small scale projects such as planning a holiday or a party

USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
You will have access to a dedicated Moodle course website for independent self-study. Tutors will also signpost to other suitable apps and online study resources.

• This course is only for learners aged 19+
• This course is suitable for those with a sound knowledge and previous experience of working with maths in practical situations.
Prosp Suitable
Before you begin your studies, an initial maths assessment will take place in order to help us to place you on the most suitable course. In order to help you be successful with your studies, it is expected that you attend classes on a regular basis (at least 90% of the time). You will also be expected to make sufficient time for completing homework and practising your maths skills between sessions.

These courses are free of charge and there are no additional costs providing that you do not already hold a level 2 English qualification at grade C or above.*Other eligibility conditions may apply.
Prosp Additional Costs
This course provides an excellent foundation to move on to study at higher levels. An achievement at Functional skills maths level 2 is a natural progression route to study at GCSE level.

In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes.
