Course Description
We offer a range of ESOL courses, for people who are settled in the UK, want to improve their English language skills and gain nationally recognised qualifications.
Our ESOL courses are designed to help you develop your English skills.

We offer courses from beginner to upper intermediate, 5 levels (Entry 1 – Level 2) to help you improve and gain confidence for work and study in
• Speaking and listening
• Reading and writing
• Grammar and punctuation
Our courses are offered mornings, afternoons and evenings during the week at local venues and can be joined at various times throughout the year.
From September 2022, our ESOL courses may, on occasions, be delivered live and online, reverting back to classroom delivery where possible, at which time it may be a combination of classroom and online learning (blended learning).

ESOL may be FREE for learners who are eligible for funding – in receipt of a benefit, on a low income or unemployed and actively looking for work.
Please ask about paying fees in instalments if you are not eligible for funding.
Prosp Description
Learners at beginner level (Entry 1) will:

• Find and understand key information in simple texts (for example, opening times, letters, advertisements). Give basic information accurately in writing (for example, filling in personal details on a simple form, writing a message or emailing a friend).
• Communicate in simple, familiar situations (for example, conversations exchanging personal information).
• Listen, follow and give simple directions.
Learners who have progressed to Level 2 (upper intermediate) will:

• Read an authentic text (such as a newspaper or on-line article, report) and identify purpose, inference, main points and specific detail.
• Plan, draft and proof read a variety of well-structured texts (for example letters, reports and articles), using appropriate register and layout.
• Demonstrate accurate use of a wide variety of English vocabulary, grammatical structures and tenses.
• Use punctuation and spelling appropriate to the level.
• Plan and deliver a structured presentation, using accurate grammar and pronunciation.
• Take an effective part in a topical discussion, supporting your arguments with evidence and responding appropriately to the views of other speakers.
• Listen for and identify main points and significant details from authentic recorded material.
• Sustain conversations on a wide range of topics, using a wide range of English, including idioms.
• Demonstrate understanding of natural intonation, stress patterns and pronunciation.
Prosp Learn
You may need to use the internet for some or all of your course - using a mobile phone, tablet or computer. We will give you more information when you enrol. After enrolling, your tutor will give you instructions on how to join some or all of your course online and how to use online resources.
Prosp Suitable
This course is only for learners aged 19+.

• You must practise English outside the classroom and spend at least 2 hours a week on homework.
• You need to attend all lessons so that you make progress.
• Your teacher will give you regular and helpful feedback to help you learn.

You will need
• A ring binder folder
• An A5 notebook to write in
• A pen and pencil.
• Some learners may have to pay for the ESOL exams.
Prosp Additional Costs
If you have attended well and progressed you can enrol onto the next level and prepare for exams in one or more skills up to and including Level 2.

ESOL classes can help you to progress onto further studies at college or university or move onto a vocational course and also improve your employment opportunities.

In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed

You may need to use the internet for some of your course - using a tablet, laptop or computer. The tutor will speak to you about useful websites, apps and online resources which you may be asked to use for homework.

We try to make sure your class is as safe as possible. If you are worried about anything, please talk to your tutor or our Safeguarding Officer.

Please make sure you and everyone at home are fully dressed when you are joining classes online, and that no personal information (address, bank details) can be seen.
