1. You will need to demonstrate, at level 2, an ability to read and understand complex English as used, for example, in novels, non-fiction writing, newspapers and magazines;
2. Be able to write in sentences and paragraphs, and to have a command of vocabulary and punctuation to allow you to develop subjects in your writing to 500+ words;
3. If you are unclear as to whether you have the appropriate knowledge, experience or qualifications to enrol, please contact the Programme Coordinator for advice.
4. ALL learners will have to complete an initial reading and writing assessment prior to enrolment to ensure that the course is appropriate for you. Therefore, you may be advised to take a Functional Skills English course before starting your GCSE. Pre-course assessments are conducted daytime and evening. To arrange an appointment please ring 01634 338400. At the initial assessment you will have the opportunity to discuss any concerns/queries you may have.
5. In order to maximise your overall achievement on this course, it is vital that students attend regularly (at least 90% of lessons) and complete all homework assignments. Home study, such as reading and writing practice, is essential on this course. You should allow at least 8 hours per week for this beyond attendance at the classes. It is very important that potential learners recognise that it will not be possible for them to meet the requirements of this course unless they are able to devote adequate time to work and practise outside the class.
6. Please bring along a file with paper and a pen to the first meeting of the class.
