Course Description
This course is held at Fort Amherst, where Medway Adult Education have an allotment. You can join in with some fun gardening activities delivered by our subject specialist, Emma.

This course provides you with the skills to manage an allotment plot throughout the seasons. You will learn the basics in garden care, how to overcome challenges and get the best growing conditions for your crops.

The allotment is right at the top of Fort Amherst- up the hill and through the short foot tunnel.
There are toilets at the plot.

If you have any health issues that might be impacted by you taking part in physical gardening and the outdoors please let the tutor know ahead of time. The terrain is naturally uneven.

Please check out Fort Amherst’s website for more information about the site- https://www.fortamherst.com/
.
This course is part of our targeted community learning approach, which runs throughout Medway and aims to reach those not engaged with lifelong learning, including due to financial barriers.
This new online format makes the subject more accessible to a wider audience, helping to improve mental and physical health.

The sessions are outside so please wear appropriate clothing. In the event of bad weather classes may be indoors on the site.

Please wear wellies if possible, or outdoor shoes you are happy to get dirty. Please bring your own gloves and any small hand gardening tools if you have them- e.g. trowel, fork and bucket.

The grounds of Fort Amherst are open to the public. For the duration of the classes, 10am-12pm, please ensure to stay in the areas we have designated for our activities.

Sessions may be shortened in the event of bad weather-in which case the tutor will advise learners of appropriate home study.

Once on site if driving, drive right up to the top of the hill, where parking is available. This is a good place to park, as it saves a steep walk up hill. There is also parking lower down, by the café- if you park there please go into the café to register your car. If you arrive on foot then just make your way up that hill- although it’s steep, it’s only a 5-10mins walk.
