Due to the current and evolving situation with Covid 19, the delivery methods of this course are subject to change. There may be times when the lessons will be held remotely, via live video calls, use of our Moodle area, private social media groups etc. By signing up to the course you are agreeing to this wide range of teaching and learning approaches; the lessons will be held in classrooms where this is usually the case, when it is safe to do so, and may be switched to online as the need arises.

This exciting new course is for learners with reasonable basic computer experience who want to gain a modern nationally recognized qualification – it is not for beginners. This is an Ascentis accredited Entry 3 Essential Digital Skills course; and with innovations in technology and the increasing demand for online services, it is important to ensure that people are able to participate in life, work and further study, by providing them with the opportunity to gain these increasingly important digital skills. The skills acquired will allow learners to be able to be digitally mobile and access important governmental services, transact online and explore technologies, which will improve their social interactions with family and friends.
Prosp Description
To develop essential digital skills necessary for work, life and further study, learners complete five components:

1. To interact with digital devices and handle information appropriately – using digital devices, computers, phones, tablets... Use the Internet and search engines to find information and understand jargon. Store information and manage files and folders.
2. To create, edit and store digital content – including word processing for documents, letters and reports. Capture and save images.
3. To share content and communicate effectively using digital devices – take your email and messaging knowledge further by including attachments. Also create and use an address book.
4. To develop transacting skills necessary for work and life – to complete online forms and buy items.
5. To be safe, confident and responsible online - identify risks and threats when online and how to prevent them. Recognise security threats and know what to do.
ASSESSMENTS – are a combination of a portfolio, by completing workbooks as you go through the course, and an online quiz, including multiple-choice, missing word and short answers.

This course is suitable for those who have basic knowledge of computers, for example, those who have attended the Digital Skills suite of courses, or already have the skills listed below.

RECOMMENDED PRIOR KNOWLEDGE, ATTAINMENT AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Some learners may need to learn the following pre-entry skills before enrolling on this course:
• Turning on a device (including entering and updating any account information safely, such as a password);
• Using the available controls on a device (such as a mouse and keyboard for a computer, or touchscreen on a smartphone or tablet);
• Making use of accessibility tools (including assistive technology) to make a device easier to use (such as changing display settings to make content easier to read);
• Interacting with the home screen on a device;
• Connecting to the internet (including Wi-Fi) safely and securely, and opening a browser;
• Opening and accessing an application.

This course gives you a broad basis to progress on to many of our other Work Skills courses which require the use of IT to create portfolios or do research, such as Level 1 Awards in: Retail, Customer Service, Business & Administration and Adult Health & Social Care; or a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling. You can also progress to the Level 1 Award in Essential Digital Skills for Work and Life accredited course, but you will be expected to type quite well – so you may need to practice!
