Course Description
Medway Adult Education and Medway Council are proud to offer local residents with learning difficulties and disabilities our Supported Learning programme, which provides a range of creative and practical subjects. We aim to empower our learners, with appropriate challenge and stimulation to build confidence and contribute to them leading fuller lives, including more engagement in the community and helping independence.

It is possible to start courses throughout the year, and pro-rata payment options are available. So if you see a course has already started and there are spaces on there then it will be possible to join.

Every course has a Learning Support Assistant, working with the tutor.
Prosp Description
Courses will take place in our new Gillingham Centre opening in September 2022. We will have an accessible, dedicated kitchen, with brand new equipment. This class is specially designed to get an understanding of food hygiene, knife skills and safety in the kitchen in a fun and personalised way. At the end of each class, you will sit down and recap the recipe and self-evaluate on how you feel that session went and reflect you have progressed.

Learners will:

• Gain understanding and practice health, food and hygiene.
• Use knives, cooking and kitchen equipment safely.
• Create a range of dishes from different cultures, linked to celebrations and events.
• Use a range of preparation, cooking and presentation methods.
• Demonstrate understanding of nutrition, food groups and healthy eating.
• Practice maths skills through weighing, measuring and timing.

Multiple sessions-
In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know.
