Learners will:
1. Observe appropriate health and safety requirements in the art studio as set out in the MAE ground rules/learners contract.
2. Use a range of drawing materials including: pencil, graphite, charcoal, pen & ink. This will develop skills and confidence in drawing through careful observation and rendering.
3. Develop use of painting materials including: watercolour, acrylics and Soft Pastels.
4. Explore tones and types of paper: including watercolour paper, white cartridge paper and various tones of coloured paper to support your work.
5. Incorporate relevant mathematical skills as part of the course through studying pencil measuring, proportion, shapes, geometrical forms, patterns, balance and symmetry.
6. Demonstrate a range of painting techniques including impressionist, expressionist and realism, using a range of materials.
7. Build their confidence in planning and designing their own personal projects as well as taking part in the group discussions.
8. Engage with and respond to a piece of art to practise comparative language and adjectives, which can stimulate and develop creative and critical thinking skills.
9. Taking inspiration from a range of artists learners will gain further insight into artists’ ideas, methods and approaches to representational drawings and paintings.
