Course Description
Due to the current and evolving situation with Covid 19 the delivery methods of this course are subject to change. there may be times when the lessons will be held remotely, via online live video calls, use of our Moodle area, private social media groups etc. By signing up to the course you are agreeing to this wide range of teaching and learning approaches; the lessons will be held in classrooms where this is usually the case, when it is safe to do so, and may be switched to online as the need arises. This course is planned to start in a classroom, and with reduced group sizes to allow for distancing.

Face masks: these may be compulsory depending on latest government advice and tutor requirements. Please note when moving from your seat in the classroom you will be required to be wearing your mask.

This exciting new course will introduce you to a range of creative techniques and materials. We will work with various mediums, including traditional, the unusual and recycled. Some projects may be of an abstract and experimental nature, others more traditional. We will work using various themes and techniques and your tutor will encourage you to develop your creative skills whilst incorporating your own individuality and style into projects. You will be encouraged to use a sketchbook to enhance your learning between sessions and further develop your learning and personal practice.

1. Create art using a wide range of techniques
2. Explore and experiment with a wide variety of mediums
3. Demonstrate understanding of drawing theory including form, light and shade, texture and perspective.
4. Increase contextual knowledge by referring to works by artists from different cultures and movements, including contemporary art.
Prosp Learn
This course in an excellent starting point for beginners who want to explore creativity or those with more experience that would like to try new/modern approaches and improve creativity. As well as improving art skills you will be encouraged to practise using sketchbook and undertake research to increase your knowledge and skills.
Prosp Suitable
For the first session we will be using watercolours (pans or tubes are fine). Other materials will be needed later in the course and will be discussed in class.

We offer a wide range of art courses and workshops suitable for all abilities – a progression course will run after the first 15-week course.

Medway Adult Education works with many partners locally such as UCA and the University of Kent; information about their courses can be found in our studios, café and on Moodle. Medway has an exciting and wide-range of events, exhibitions and activities to inspire and help you make further progress - please see the community noticeboards in the Rochester centre and again on Moodle. Your tutor will be able to talk through with you individual progression options.

In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes.
