Have you considered working as a Teaching Assistant or working towards a TA qualification? Would you like to learn more about how children learn maths at school and the terminology used so that you can support them better at school?

This course introduces concepts and methods used in primary schools to support children in their maths.

Join this 6-week course to find out more and brush up on your own skills.

If you are aged 19 and over and do not have Maths at level 2 or equivalent, you can access free numeracy courses through Multiply to build your confidence with numbers and learn a new skill in our professional studios.
Prosp Description
During this course you will learn the following:
• How to develop confidence in mathematical terminologies by matching terminology and definitions.
• How to understand concepts and methods used in primary school maths by applying basic mathematical operations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• How to be able to support children with their maths by demonstrating how to double up numbers and converting basic units.

This course is designed to support your understanding of the numeracy requirements of a teaching assistant and to support you in gaining the necessary skills needed to support children in schools.
Prosp Suitable
This course is for parents, volunteers or anyone who is interested in learning more about how to support children with their maths at school, and improve their own maths skills at the same time.

On completion of this course you may be able to go onto the following:

Multiply: Maths for Teaching Assistants Secondary School (FREE)
Functional Skills Maths Levels 1 and 2 or even GCSE Maths.
Prosp After
In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed.

You may need to use the internet for some of your course - using a tablet, laptop or computer. The tutor will speak to you about useful websites, apps and online resources which you may be asked to use for homework
